Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Overview:

Genetic Cardiomyopathy that causes assymetric thickening of septum or concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle.

Cause:

– Genetic Etiology

Diagnosis:

Clinical Findings:
– Diastolic Dysfunction (due to hypertrophied muscle)
– Majority are asymptomatic (sudden death upon exertion is the common presentation)

Histology:
– Myofiber Dissary
– Assymetric thickening of septum or concentric hypertrophy

Treatment:

– B Blockers
– Calcium antagonists
– Surgical myectomy
– Transplantation
